Back when these photos were taken, Sydney was gearing up for the Year 2000 Olympic Games and so the New Year's Eve celebrations heading into 1999 were even more special than usual.

Sydney's harbour is probably the most beautiful in the world, and even though the weather was overcast this particular night there were still spectacular scenes of the city skyline and harbour.
